Rover was making bicycles in Coventry from the 1880s, including the “safety bicycle” that set the shape of the modern bike, then motor cars from 1904. In 1950, JET1 was the first gas-turbine car. The P5 of 1958, then the P5B of 1967 with the Buick-derived V8, were the cars of British Prime Ministers up to Margaret Thatcher, and of the Queen. The P6 of 1963, the first “European Car of the Year” in 1964, received that same V8 in 1968 as the 3500.
