The Renault story

Louis Renault built his first voiturette at Billancourt in 1898. After the war, the 4CV of 1947 was the first French car to pass the million mark; the Dauphine of 1956 sold two million, many of them in the United States. The Floride, later Caravelle, of 1958, a coupé and convertible styled at Ghia, is associated with Brigitte Bardot, who received one of the very first. The R8 Gordini of 1964, in French racing blue, formed a generation of drivers, and the Renault-engined Alpine A110 from Dieppe won the first World Rally Championship in 1973.
