For a car built in a few hundred examples, or bodied by a coachbuilder, the bumper is often the part that cannot be found: no longer made, absent from autojumbles, or offered second-hand in a condition that is not worth re-chroming. Here is how we reproduce a bumper in stainless steel, and what we need to do it.
Starting from what
- Your original part, even pitted, rusty or bent: it serves as the pattern. The dimensions, the radii of the curves, the position of the fixings and overriders are all there, even under the rust. This is the simplest case.
- A part on loan from a club or another owner, which we measure and return untouched.
- Drawings or dimensions, when the part no longer exists anywhere: this takes longer and needs good-quality photos of the car, from the front, from the side and close-ups of the fixings.
How it works
- You write to us with the make, model, year, front or rear, and photos. We reply within 24 hours to say whether it can be done and what we need.
- Quote, depending on the complexity of the shape, the number of elements (blade in one or several sections, overriders, bumper horns, brackets) and what you can provide.
- Measuring the part and making the formers.
- Forming the blade in 304 stainless steel of 2 mm minimum, assembly, then mirror polishing by hand.
- Checking against the original part or the dimensions, then shipping within France or Europe.
What we do not do
We do not re-chrome: that is a chrome plater's job. Nor do we straighten an original bumper to give it back to you: our trade is to make a new one, in stainless steel, that will never rust again. If your original part is sound and you want to keep it as it is, we will tell you so.
How long, how much
Lead time and price depend on each case, and we only give them once we have seen the photos or the part. For an order of magnitude, our catalogue models, which are reproductions of this kind that have become standard references, are priced on each product page in our bumpers. A small batch for a club or a restorer reduces the unit cost, since the formers are made once.
Before you write to us
First check that your model is not already in the catalogue: our marques list every model with its years. If you cannot find it, the custom-made bumpers page has the form and our direct contact details.
